EWC’S MEN’S TEAM WINS RODEO
The Eastern Wyoming College Men’s Rodeo Team won last weekend’s rodeo hosted by Casper College. Led by sophomore Willie Grimm, of Harrison, Neb., the men’s team finished on top with 335 points.
Grimm dominated the bullriding event with scores of 83 in the first round and 80 in the short round to win the average title. This win extended his lead in the regional standings.
“Willie is riding on a level of his own,” Jake Clark, EWC rodeo coach, said. “I am proud of the effort he has put into the sport.”
Teammate Derek Kenner, of Woodlake, Neb., continued his consistency in the saddle bronc riding by placing in both rounds and finishing second in the average. “Derek is in a solid second place in the regional standings and well within reach of first,” Clark said. “Derek has competed on ten broncs and placed ten times this season. That type of consistency will get you to the finals.”
In the tie-down roping, Wiley Cross, of Torrington, placed second in the first round with a time of 10.8.
Chris Cover, of Ashby, Neb., won the first round of the team roping with partner Lane Morrow, of Casper College. They also finished third in the average. Jeff Herian, of Alliance, Neb., teamed up with George Raftopoulos, of Colorado State University, to win second in the first round of the team roping.
Thedford, Neb. cowgirl Molli Pearman finished fourth in the goat tying event.
The Lancers will host the next regional rodeo April 21, 22 and 23.
“College rodeo is action packed and we hope to pack the stands this weekend to support our student athletes,” Clark said. “We have several student athletes that are at the top of their events with a great shot at qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo.”
EWC Rodeo 2006 begins Friday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at the Goshen County Fairgrounds.
