A Day at Lincoln Elementary school
On Wednesday, January 11th, three Lancer basketball players, Brandon Lawson (73" tall), Rodrigo P. daSilva (79" tall) and Craig Hamer (81" tall) visited Nan Hornbecks' kindergarten class at Lincoln Elementary. Before the players arrived at the school, the students were given the players height in inches and the teacher made a huge cardboard chart for each of the players. The project focused on understanding measurements. The students measured the basketball players in inches and then had to measure them in non-standard units. In this case the students used unifix cubes, crayons and links. While attending the class, the players were assigned one third of the class(about 6 students)and had to measure the kids using one of the units. As the pictures show, the players and students really had a great time and learned about measurements. This is just one of the many ways our college students reach out to the community to give back for their support.
