New for Art & Creative Writing Students

Artist: Riley McKenna, Torrington Wyoming

"Aching, he leans on
the oak to rest his back. The tree
doesn't notice."

Poet: Jackie Holtz, Torrington Wyoming

Last Fall students submitted original haiku to Repbulic Haiku; their only guideline was that their work had to connect nature and the human condition. The pieces in the collection are sometimes full of sorrow, or humor, or joy, and because of the range they represent they do, especially as a collection, speak to the broader human condition.

The haiku that were selected for publication were shared with the art students, and Karl Brake guided his students in illustrating various poems. Selected illustrations were then matched with the poems and printed.

This edition of Republic Haiku represents the creative and artistic talents of the student writers and artists here at Easter Wyoming College.
