Progress on EWC Construction Technology's House

EWC AG NEWS!

BLOCK & BRIDLE CLUB

The next meeting for the ‘Ag’ Club is October 16th, at 5:00 p.m. in room 120, MA Building. All Ag and Vet.Tech majors are invited to attend and join. They have already enjoyed Tim’s cooking at a barbecue in September. Their next activity is to help the Torrington Learning Center (pre-school) with a Halloween Party. Members are discussing the national meeting that will be held in Florida and trips to the Rapid City Stock Show and the USDA Research Center in Clay Center, NE. This year’s officers are Kelsey Young – President, Edie Morrison – Sec/Treas.and Rachel Sullivan– VP/Student Senate Rep.

EWC LIVESTOCK JUDGERS

This fall’s team members have traveled to Ft. Collins, Alva, Laramie, and several local producers in preparation for their first national contest @ the Denver Stock Show. Team members are Coulter Carlson, Ashlee Anderson, Danielle Haug, Shannon Brophy, Andrea Christianson, Cinda Stretesky, and Jay Bristol. Ashlee says that the livestock judging team has been a great experience so far and that she is looking forward to traveling to the national contest.

RODEO CLUB DOING WELL!

EWC students doing great at recent rodeos include: Ty Kenner, Wylie Johnson, Wylie Cross, Jayce Johnson, Jamie Tafoya, Derek Kenner, Amanda Bolerjack, Chris Cover, and Jared Bilby at the Chadron rodeo. We will try to get an updated list for next month’s email letter. Good Luck at LCCC’s rodeo this weekend!

STOCK DOG TRIALS COMING TO TORRINGTON!

EWC’s Ag and Vet.Tech students have been invited to help with this regional contest (Feb. 10-11). There will be some preliminary work before the actual event: contacting previous sponsors, etc. and event set-up on Feb. 9th. The Stock Dog Trial Association will make a donation back to EWC, so we really want to help them. Contact Tim (532-8271) for more information.

BLACK TIE AND BLUE JEANS BALL!

EWC Ag students are invited to help with this EWC Foundation event. Some 300 people will be attending the Dinner/Dance party on January 27. Students and faculty will be acting as servers, hosts, coat attendants, etc. All proceeds will be used for Agriculture & Livestock Judging Scholarships, Lab Equipment, and Supplies. We should have a ‘Grand’ time! Students should contact Monte, Tim, or JD for volunteer duties.

Lancer Rodeo Freshmen take three titles at LCCC Rodeo


Four Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Rodeo Team freshmen earned three titles at the Laramie County Community College (LCCC) Rodeo this past weekend. EWC took top honors in the saddle bronc riding, bull riding and team roping.

Ty Kenner, a freshman from Woodlake, Neb., earned the title of champion saddle bronc rider scoring 143 points on two rides at the LCCC rodeo. Kenner also won the final round in the bareback riding and ended up third in the average.

“This performance added with his strong showing this fall has put Ty at the top of the all-around cowboy regional standings,” Jake Clark, EWC Rodeo Coach, said. “Ty has had the best start of any freshman I’ve seen.”

Freshmen Chris Arnold, of Richardton, N.D., and Kyle McLean, of Miles City, Mont., paired up to win the team roping average with a 15.8 on two runs.

Lancer Bull Rider Lane Lindsay, a freshman from Hot Springs, S.D., won the championship title for the second time this fall with a score of 146 on two rides. Lindsay is leading the region in the bull riding standings.

Teammate Wiley Johnson, of North Platte, Neb., placed second in the first round and fourth in the average and is sitting in the second place position of the regional bull riding standings.

“These two bullriders have a lot of try and talent to go along with it,” Clark said.

For the Women’s Team, Barrel Racer Chelsie Schaefer, of Walla Walla, Wash., placed sixth overall with a 34.49 on two runs. Freshman Crystal Wortman, of Highmore, S.D., placed fourth in the first round of the breakaway roping.

The team has completed the fall season and will start up again March 23-25, 2007 with the Lancer Rodeo in Torrington.
